heavy hearts

We were dealt quite a blow today.

Our dear sweet Rocky passed away, without any warning or symptoms.

He bounded out of the house with Martha this morning, per usual.  Grabbing his favorite frisbee and running out into the yard.  But he didn’t come when he was called, and Scott found him laying down next to a tree, frisbee just inches away.

Needless to say, our hearts are broken.

This little dog, who came from very humble beginnings, taught us so much in the 9 years he was with us: courage, patience, love…  He also helped impart lessons to countless school children about compassion for, needs of and safety around companion animals, volunteering through our local humane society.

Yes, I am emotional.  And not just because I am nearly 6 months pregnant.  My eyes are swollen and red, the hole in my heart indelible.  I was not prepared.  Not today.

You are loved and missed more than I can say, Rocket J.

We love you, Rocky. We’ll miss you, so.

  2. Betty says:

Rocky will live on in all our hearts. Sophie will make sure her sister knows all about him.

We’re thinking about you and your family.

  3. I’m so sorry dear, that is terrible. Since Sophie is at the age when they usually sort of do and do not understand at the same time, I recommend “Goodbye Mousie” as a nice, contained, educational story about a little boy saying goodbye to his pet mouse. And, for somewhat after, “The Tenth Good Thing About Barney”, about remembering the good times.

  4. Sorry, I went into my head there for a second. Poor Rocky! He was one of my favoritest dogs. : (

Oh Christi, I’m so sorry. Believe me, I know. I’m thinking about you guys and looking at all the Rocky pictures you’ve posted. Love you, K

    I miss him terribly.

Christi helped me put a short collection of photos about Rocky together on my blog. It helps me remember what a great influence he was, and that I am thankful for the time we had together.
